I make the Beetroot Latte with homemade beetroot juice and an espresso shot. You add any milk or milk alternative that you prefer – including almond, soy, oat, or coconut milk. It turns wonderfully pink and tastes fruity, delicious, and healthy.

The beetroot is full of valuable health substances and also contains only 38 calories per 100 grams. It supplies the body with vitamins A, B, and C, as well as folic acid, iron, potassium, phosphorus, and magnesium. The fiber contained in beetroot activates the intestines and boosts digestion and metabolism.

In addition, regular consumption of the tuber is said to stimulate the formation of mitochondria in the human body. These small cell power plants ensure that the body burns energy more efficiently. The consequence? Fat deposits can be broken down more easily.

And finally: the secondary plant substances that give the tuber its red color protect the skin from free radicals and thus prevent the signs of skin aging.

The USA is an absolute trendsetter, especially in the food sector. How surprising that the pink coffee does not come from the land of unlimited opportunity but from Down Under – Australia. Here the “Beetroot Latte” conquered the Australian cafes.

The trend spread via Instagram and social networks, especially among health-conscious food bloggers who posted colorful snapshots of the trend drink.

What is beetroot coffee?

The question arises as to where the pink coffee got its striking color from and why it is considered particularly healthy. The Australian name “Beetroot Latte” already provides information about the special ingredients of the coffee specialty. It is made from beetroot.

Pink coffee can be prepared with fresh beetroot or with finished beetroot juice. The other ingredients include espresso, hot milk (also with plant-based milk), and honey.

No wonder, then, that pink coffee is rich in vitamins and nutrients such as vitamin C, iron, and folic acid. The pink coffee variant thus strengthens skin and hair, supports blood formation, and strengthens the heart.

How to make beetroot coffee

Many lose their appetite at the thought of beetroot. But it’s worth trying the pink alternative to black coffee. In fact, it’s very easy to make at home. With the following recipe, the pink coffee is conjured up in no time at all:

  • Just peel the beetroot and juice it
  • Add some grated ginger to the juice. But be careful: It’s better to add a little more afterward before it gets too spicy!
  • Mix this mixture in boiled almond or soy milk.
  • Finally, you can add some agave syrup for sweetness.

The trend drink is even faster with ready-made beetroot juice. The pink coffee looks like a latte macchiato or cappuccino, but the recipe actually doesn’t contain any coffee.

In principle, however, it can be converted into a caffeinated drink with an espresso. This is quickly prepared with a fully automatic coffee machine and perfectly complements the pink coffee.

In addition, the original recipe contains no caffeine.

Beetroot coffee: Here’s how you make pink coffee

Ingredients for a cup of beetroot latte:

  • 1 raw beetroot
  • A small piece of ginger (depending on your preference)
  • Approximately 350 ml coconut, rice, oat, or almond milk (depending on preference)
  • To sweeten: a tablespoon of agave syrup or alternatively a dried date
  • Approximately 40 ml of espresso
  • Extra tip: a pinch of vanilla to refine

Preparation:

  • Wash the beetroot and ginger thoroughly and place in the juicer without peeling. Set aside the juice obtained.
  • Now put the milk with the selected sweeteners in a blender and mix.
  • Pour the espresso into a cup or glass.
  • Now add about 200 ml of the sweetened milk.
  • Slowly pour the beetroot juice over it.
  • Froth the remaining milk and carefully pour it over the beetroot coffee.

The pink latte also tastes cold. Simply froth the milk cold and add ice cubes to the glass. The healthy summer drink is ready.
